Before & After Photos

There are many important questions to ask when researching a microtia ear reconstruction surgeon. One question to is ask for photos of their work. In the world of plastic surgery training, a lot of time is spent on photography so an accurate representation is presented. No article is accepted for publication unless accurate photos are submitted.

Before & after photos can be incredibly misleading. Make sure to ask your potential surgeon for before & after photos of SEVERAL PATIENTS of BOTH EARS from ALL ANGLES (front, side, 3/4 view, chin tilted up). All too often ONLY the reconstructed ear is shown but you can’t judge the size, projection, height or symmetry unless the opposite ear is shown. This is called “Honest” photography.
