I create ears

In 2012, after 7 years in a hospital-based pediatric plastic surgery  practice, I opened my own private practice devoted to creating ears. Lewin Ear Reconstruction is the realization of a long held dream of mine to provide exceptionally personalized care for children and adults with microtia. My practice allows me the freedom to control each patient’s experience at every step along their journey — from our first conversation to answer every last question, to providing the most technologically advanced and safest operating room experience, to impeccable care postoperatively with 24/7 access to me. Lewin Ear Reconstruction is a direct reflection of who I am.

I am a mom

I became a mother of two during my plastic surgery residency. Since that time I have lived by the “golden rule” — to treat every patient as if they were my own child. Just as my children have taught me so much about their perspective, so have my patients given me tremendous insight into the effects of microtia. I have seen how kids with differences can struggle, both internally and from the reaction of others. It can be painful for parents to watch. But I have also seen so many children grow and thrive and gain self-confidence after ear reconstruction. Now that my children are teenagers, I realize how much being a mom has enriched my ability to care for my patients.

I am an artist

My own childhood was filled with drawing, painting and sculpting. I loved creating beautiful objects. I wanted to apply my love of art and design in college, and chose to study architecture. Although I left architecture to pursue medicine, I was drawn to a surgical specialty that allows me to bring creativity to my work every day. I have no doubt that my artistic background strengthens my ability to sculpt ears.

I think  outside the box

Most plastic surgeons agree that ear reconstruction is the most difficult procedure we perform. This is exactly why I chose to dedicate my career to treating microtia. We will never be able to make a “perfect” ear, but that goal is what I strive for. Since my first Medpor ear reconstruction in 2005, I have challenged myself to find creative solutions to improve the technique. From developing the TPF flap technique eliminating scalp scars to inventing the one – piece Lewin Ear Implant to being the first surgeon to routinely offer 3D patient – specific porous implant ear reconstruction to my patients, thinking outside the box helps me achieve improved outcomes and fewer complications.
