The 2014 Earicles Application is now online! Earicles – Miracles for Ears is our nonprofit organization that helps children born without ears thrive through education, research, advocacy and cost-free Microtia treatment.
The inspiration for Earicles came several years ago when I received a heart-wrenching email from the mother of an 11 year old girl named Ivy. She was born with unilateral microtia and had seven previous microtia ear surgeries using the rib graft procedure. Unfortunately, Ivy’s surgeries were not successful, causing extreme emotional anguish at such a tender age. Her mother pleaded for help, worrying that her daughter was becoming depressed. Ivy’s story touched my heart and I knew that I wanted to help change her life for the better using Medpor to reconstruct her ears. Years later, Ivy became one of our first Earicles patient and received cost-free surgery to make her a new ear.

Above: Ivy and my children celebrated Ivy’s Earicle with a trip to our favorite ice cream shop.
This year we are focused on helping children like Ivy, sponsoring three cost free and/or reduced cost surgeries to those children (<18 years of age) who have already undergone ear surgical reconstruction that resulted in a poor or failed outcome.
We wish we could help more children and families in need but Earicles is a new non-profit entity with limited funding. To donate to this great cause or to apply online, please go to www.microtiaearsurgery.com/earicles.
