Ecuador Microtia Atresia Conference (ECMAC) 2013

DSC_0067ECMAC 2013 was an amazing experience! We had an incredible turnout, with patients traveling to Quito from all over Ecuador as well as from Columbia and Peru. It was a privilege to meet so many wonderful families, many of whom were not aware of the option of the Medpor technique for the treatment of microtia. The warmth, generosity of spirit and gratitude of all those in attendance was a humbling and incredibly rewarding experience for me.

I want to express my tremendous gratitude to Javier and Nathalie Carrion (parents of the beautiful Maria Emilia) and their whole family, who worked tirelessly for countless hours in the last few weeks helping to organize ECMAC. I also want to thank Umberto, Susi and Santiago Gonzalez, who came to ECMAC to share their experience. Santiago is a 9 year old boy who has bilateral microtia and atresia, and recently had two surgeries to create 2 Medpor Ears and bilateral BAHAs as our 1st Earicles patient. It was a very emotional and special beginning of what I hope will be a long and productive relationship helping the people of Ecuador and their neighbors.
