The Earicles Los Angeles Microtia Atresia Conference (“LAMAC”) will be Friday, July 31st-Sunday, August 2nd, 2020 for the at the Terranea Resort. This will be our 4th Earicles conference hosted at this incredible 5-star venue overlooking the Pacific Ocean. 

 

There will be presentations and individual patient appointments by Dr. Sheryl Lewin (Porous Implant Ear Reconstruction), Dr. Arturo Bonilla (Rib Cartilage Ear Reconstruction), and Dr. Bradley Kesser (Atresia Repair).

 

There will also be a Patient Panel Q&A, breakout sessions on insurance and parent advocacy and Meet & Greet ice cream social.

Update 3-19-20: We were informed today that Terranea is temporarily closing due to COVID-19 to ensure the health and well being of guests now until May 1, 2020. As of today the conference is still ON, but we will be discussing the viability of the event with Terranea over the next couple of weeks. We are currently not accepting new registrations until we know more. These are definitely unprecedented times. Be safe, be healthy, and stay positive!

Family Registration Fee

The EARLY Registration fee is $150 per family (2 children, 2 adults). There is a $50 fee for each additional child or adult. Registration after 1/1/2020 is $175 per family. The Family Registration Fee includes:

For those families that have already had surgery and want to share their experiences with others, please email events@lewinmd.com to be entered in the "lottery". We are always incredibly thankful to our patient families wanting to help others!

Photo/Video Release

In order to help spread awareness about microtia, as well as educate families about events, we document our events with photographs and video, and typically put together a fun, post-event wrap-up video. This is very important to us and we appreciate your help. Families will be asked to sign a photo/video release during registration.

Cancellation Policy

LAMAC has a no cancellation policy and cannot refund the Registration Fee due to any reason. If you are not able to attend the event, your fee will be considered a tax-deductible donation to Earicles. Please check with Terranea Resort regarding their cancellation policy.

Dr. Sheryl Lewin, Porous Implant Ear Reconstruction Surgeon
Lewin Ear Reconstruction  |  Torrance, CA

Dr. Lewin is a Craniofacial-trained board-certified Plastic Surgeon. She is one of the leading microtia surgeons in the United States treating children and adults with the Porous Implant Ear Reconstruction (“PIER”) technique (commonly known as Medpor, SuPor). She has spent the last 10 years developing innovative techniques to improve the outcome of PIER. She is the founder of Earicles, Miracles for Ears, a nonprofit organization dedicated to education, advocacy, research and surgical care for needy patients with microtia.

Dr. Arturo Bonilla, Rib Cartilage Ear Surgeon
Microtia-Congenital Ear Deformity Institute |San Antonio, Texas

Dr. Bonilla is board-certified and fellowship trained in Pediatric Otolaryngology / Head & Neck Surgery. He is the only exclusive pediatric microtia surgeon in the United States utilizing the natural cartilage technique for ear reconstruction. He has spent the last 20 years revising and developing his own techniques for pediatric microtia reconstruction. He is the founder of the Microtia–Congenital Ear Deformity Institute, a world renowned center for ear reconstruction in children. He has been a featured lecturer in pediatric microtia surgery, both locally and internationally.

Dr. Bradley Kesser, Atresia Repair (Canal) Surgeon

Professor, University of Virginia |  Charlottesville, Virginia

Dr. Kesser is a board-certified Otolaryngologist with subspecialty training in Otology/Neurotology. He is one of the nation’s top experts in atresia repair. He trained with Dr. Jahrsdoerfer, who pioneered atresia surgery and developed the landmark grading system for analyzing middle ear anatomy. He is a true academician, publishing extensively on unilateral hearing loss and its correction and improving outcomes in surgery for congenital aural atresia. He has won numerous clinical and research awards.

Stephen Westhead, Adult Patient Perspective

Steve was born with microtia and had ear reconstruction as a child. At the age of 53, he pursued a lifelong dream – to have his ear reconstructed again. Steve has a unique perspective about growing up with microtia and hearing loss, and the affects of surgery as an adult.

Tiffany Wilke, Patient Panel Q&A (Moderator)

Tiffany is Dr. Lewin’s Microtia Patient Liaison and the Earicles Conference Coordinator. She is also the mother to a 13 year old bilateral Microtia Atresia child, Manny, that has undergone the ear reconstruction process and wears bilateral hearing processors. Tiffany was a lead Parent Volunteer in the passing of the 2009 Wisconsin Children’s Hearing Aid & Cochlear Implant Bill. 

Tom & Michele Force, PIER Insurance Overview

Tom is an attorney with over 30 years of experience in the healthcare and insurance industries. He is the President and Founder of The Patriot Group, a full-service healthcare physician advocacy and revenue recovery company and the Senior Partner and founder of The Force Law Firm, P.C., a nationally renowned healthcare boutique law firm. Michele has over 30 years experience as a Senior Executive in Operations, Sales and Customer Service for a West-Coast 3,000+ person technology company focused on the insurance industry. She has worked with some of the largest insurance organizations in the country and has developed extensive experience in technology infrastructure.

Amy Ayer, Parent Advocacy (Moderator)

Amy’s son, James, was born with Microtia & Atresia and Hemifacial Microsomia. He has been through the ear reconstruction process along with a macrostomia/lateral cleft surgery. As an Nurse Practitioner, Amy can appreciate both the medical and parenting aspect of a young child with special needs. This Tennessee sweetheart is the mother of 3 boys and has sat on many Earicles patient panels. Amy is excited to share her insight with conference attendees!

Carey Farmer, Parent Advocacy (Moderator)

Carey’s daughter, Gabriella, was born with Microtia & Atresia. She has been through the ear reconstruction and atresia repair process. Carey has sat on several Earicles Conference Patient Panels and has insight the many aspects of the journey. Carey and her husband, Malcolm, were also the host family for Dr. Lewin’s Microtia Meet & Greet in Dallas, Texas. Gabriella is excited to help lead the LAMAC Meet & Greet kids’ dance party!

The breathtaking 5 star eco-friendly and family-friendly Terranea Resort overlooks the Pacific Ocean. We strongly encourage our families to make the most of LAMAC and stay onsite Friday and Saturday nights! The Meet & Greet ends at 8pm Friday night with 7:15am breakfast on Saturday morning. Families also have a great time connecting with other microtia families at the pool area throughout the weekend. Many families extend their stay to take advantage of this beautiful resort at the negotiated rate.

PARKING

Discounted valet overnight parking is $25 per night for Earicles LAMAC guests.

Ubers are readily available from LAX, Long Beach, and John Wayne airports. Terranea does not provide complimentary airport transportation.

Kids Camp

Earicles will provide childcare during the Saturday morning conference lectures. All children attending Saturday morning Kids Camp must be pre-registered during the LAMAC registration. Children under the age of 8 are NOT ALLOWED to attend the conference lectures out of respect to other conference attendees. Please register the for Kids Camp or bring along a family member or friend to watch your child. Both Terranea’s Kids Club (ages 4-12) and Helpr (ages 6 weeks-age 3) will be providing the childcare services.

 

Earicles is NOT providing childcare during the Saturday and Sunday Breakout Sessions. Children ARE allowed in the rooms, but we encourage you to bring quiet entertainment and snacks. The Breakout Sessions will contain valuable information, and restless children can be distracting to both you and others. Terranea does provide childcare every day for children ages 4-12 from 9am-1pm ($75, includes lunch), 2pm-4:45pm ($50), 5:30pm-10:00pm ($85, includes dinner). For children ages 6 weeks and older, Helpr can provide private childcare coverage at any time. Book Terranea Kids Club or Helpr
